Carlos Taberner broke the resistance of Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo and qualified for the second round of the tournament in Santiago de Chile.
Taberner, 108th in the ranking, won in two sets after two hours and eight minutes against Cerundolo (6-2 and 7-5) who improved in the second set but was unable to extend the match to the final round. The 24-year-old Valencian tennis player added his second victory of 2022 in Santiago to meet his compatriot Albert Ramos, favorite number two.
Taberner joins Jaume Munar, who took an hour and 34 minutes to overcome his commitment against the Colombian Daniel Elahi Galán (6-1 and 6-3) to reach the second round of the tournament and fulfilled his revenge with the tennis player from Bucaramanga, with whom he had lost three weeks ago in the second round of the tournament in Córdoba (Argentina).
The Spaniard, who was a quarter-finalist in Melbourne at the beginning of the year, Pedro Martínez, fourth seeded and exempt from the first round, will be measured in the second round.
