Firefighter’s lifeguards have been conducting intense search to locate the 15-year-old Paulo Ricardo Souza da Silva and his girlfriend, 14-year-old Niquel Pereira Santana, who disappeared into the sea, near the LEME Beach, in the South Zone of Rio, on Wednesday night (10), dragged by the current.
The couple was together with Paulo’s father, Ricardo Costa, 37. He started drowning while trying to get a ball that fell into the sea by participating in a football match with his family in the beach sand.
Ricardo and two adults were saved by the lifeguards, but the couple of young people were dragged by the strong waves and disappeared. They entered the water to try to save other people in the family, but ended up disappearing into the sea.
The maritime rescue group reported that searches continue uninterruptedly, using aircraft, drones, divers, inflatable boats, speedboats and aquatic bikes between Leme and Piratininga beach in Niterói. Due to the busy sea, with waves of over 2 meters high, the couple may have been dragged away.
The families of young people, all residents of Santo Cristo, in the central region of the city, accompany the work of rescue teams in Leme Beach.
