Brazil had a great Sunday (22) at the Monaco stage of the Mare Nostrum Swim Tour 2022, winning three gold medals: with Nicholas Santos, João Gomes Júnior and Bruno Fratus.
The Mare Nostrum, which is played in a jungle format until a final between just two athletes, will have two more stages, in Barcelona (Spain), on May 25th and 26th, and in Canet (France), on the 28th and 29. The competition serves as preparation for the World Aquatics Championships in June in Budapest.
Nicholas Santos won his gold in the 50 meters butterfly style, where he swam in 22.83 seconds to overcome the American Michael Andrews. João Gomes Júnior won in the 50-meter breaststroke swimming in 27s10 against Dutch Arno Kamminga and German Lucas Materath, who tied in the semifinals.
The third achievement was Bruno Fratus in the 50 meters freestyle, in which he swam in 21s49 to beat Dutchman Thom de Boer. In addition to the three gold medals, Brazil secured a silver in the competition with Olympic medalist Fernando Scheffer in the 200 meters freestyle.
