The Swedish Ministry of Defense announced the selection of the Embraer C-390 Millennium as the country’s new tactical transport aircraft. The decision by yet another member country of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) marks the first acquisition of the C-390 in northern Europe, which highlights Sweden’s commitment to improving its defense capabilities with state-of-the-art aircraft, says Embraer.
“Embraer is honored with the choice of Sweden. After several European Union and NATO countries selected the C-390, this decision confirms the fact that our multi-mission aircraft represents a tremendous advance in operational capability over previous generation tactical transport aircraft,” said Bosco of Costa Junior, president and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security.
“The aircraft is gradually being recognized by the most advanced Air Forces in the world, such as the Swedish Air Force. This selection encourages us to offer our customers the tactical transport they need to carry out their most challenging missions with unmatched versatility, reliability and performance”, adds the executive.
Embraer has a long-standing partnership with Sweden, which will be expanded with the selection of the C-390. The company reported that it is ready to support the Swedish Armed Forces in order to meet the demanding requirements of their acquisition process, as this decision represents a new chapter in Brazil-Sweden relations.
“The choice of the C-390 is in line with a growing trend among European Union and NATO member countries, which recognize the aircraft’s effectiveness in meeting current and future defense needs. Sweden is the sixth European nation to choose the aircraft, along with Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the Netherlands and Portugal. Sweden’s acquisition of the C-390 will not only reinforce national defense but also increase interoperability with allied forces while benefiting from present synergies. in Europe in terms of training, support and logistics facilities”, says Embraer.
The C-390 was also acquired by Brazil and South Korea. Since its entry into service with the Brazilian Air Force in 2019 and the Portuguese Air Force in 2023, the fleet in operation has accumulated more than 15,000 flight hours, operational availability at 93% and mission completion rates above 99%, demonstrating exceptional productivity in the category.
