The Nicaraguan Center for Human Rights (Cenidh) published a message recorded by the sister of the political prisoner Suyen Barahona, in which they request that the activist be allowed to have a phone call with her son, whom she has not seen for more than 500 days since the regime ordered her to be imprisoned in the cells of the Directorate of Judicial Assistance (DAJ), known as “El Nuevo Chipote” in Managua.
«Dear sister Suyen, on December 7th my mother showed you five photos of your son after 542 days without seeing him, more than in your dreams. You began to show the photos to those around you: Look, he is my son! Sister, if something as basic as a photograph made your soul happy, hearing his voice again and seeing him through a camera will be something indescribable », Xenia Barahona reiterated.

«That you can see your son, that you can be free because you are innocent and your son has the right to grow up by your side. I want to see you embrace the child in freedom and that it be like that for the more than 235 families in these unfair conditions,” added the sister of the president of the Renewing Democratic Union (Unamos).
Barahona was kidnapped on June 13, 2021, during a wave of manhunts against political leaders, prior to the disputed presidential elections of that year. The order to arrest the political activist came hours after that script was implemented against Dora María Téllez and Ana Margarita Vijil, both members of Unamos.
Ulisa Yaoska Tapia Silva, head of the Thirteenth Criminal Trial Court of Managua, sentenced the Sandinista dissident to eight years in prison for the crime of “undermining national integrity”, and also disqualified her from holding public office.
After more than 500 days in captivity, the also member of the Blue and White National Unit has only been able to be visited 12 times. The dictatorship has ignored the family’s call so that Barahona can communicate by telephone with her little son. In the most recent visit —on December 7— that the Nicaraguan regime allowed, the political kidnapper was able to see her five-year-old son in a photograph, only in photographs, this was confirmed to Article 66 by César Dubois, husband of the opposition member. .
It should be noted that both Barahona’s husband and her son are out of Nicaragua as a result of the arbitrary detention of the political activist.
“Our son and I are outside Nicaragua, Suyen (Barahona) could not see him in person, but they allowed our relatives to show Suyen some photos of our son. After more than 500 days, she was finally able to see her son in photos, “revealed Dubois.
