The Unitary Union of Education Workers of Peru (Sutep) suspended the staggered national strike. This after the Ministry of Education (Minedu) committed to increasing the sector’s budget to a minimum of 5.1% of GDP.
Likewise, the Minedu agreed to improve the working conditions of teachers and assistants after the protest measure carried out by the teaching profession.
The teachers union indicated that The suspension of the strike was debated and adopted by its bases in virtual meetings, but what will u don monitoring the government’s actions so that they comply with and execute the agreements.
Besides, called on Congress to approve Bill 4786, that seeks to improve the pensions of unemployed and retired people. They also called on parliamentarians to demand that the Government comply with Law 31923, which guarantees a salary of 85% of the first teaching scale for auxiliaries.
The Minedu proposed allocating 5.1% of GDP to Education by 2025, ensure the budget balances for the payment of the social debt, increase of S/ 200 in March of the other year for auxiliaries, doubling of vacancies for children of teachers in Beca 18, increase for teachers of S/ 400 in the year, exceptional bonus of S/ 487 for the second quarter of 2025, among others.
