The National Congress of SUTEL Delegates analyzed the conservative, neoliberal and privatizing nature of the government that prioritizes the owners of agribusiness and financial capital to the detriment of the working people.
Through a statement, the ANTEL civil servants’ union stated that today reality shows the worst face, popular pots throughout the country, insecurity in each neighborhood and a famine that makes wages lose purchasing power on a daily basis, condemning those who are without work to misery and despair.
They ensure that organized workers defend social security so that the retirement age does not rise, public education, the right to decent housing, public companies and the defense of water.
They emphasize that the month of June was crossed by mobilizations at the national level in defense of what has been conquered, in defense of work, wages and popular interests.
SUTEL was no exception and that is why we mobilized on June 22 in the framework of the defense of public companies.
Conflict
“We come from times in which ANTEL continues to be the objective of multinationals and private companies, with a government that encourages all measures that give away the heritage of all Uruguayans, leaving universal access to public services, a right of all, in check” , expresses SUTEL.
The union of the telecommunications company indicates that the authorization of licenses for cable operators to provide broadband services “breaks ANTEL’s telecommunications monopoly, delivering one of the lines of business that makes up 40% of ANTEL’s profits. the company”. They assure that this “compromises not only the profitability of the company, but also the contributions it makes to General Income (education, housing, health, security, among others)”.
They indicate that breaking with ANTEL’s monopoly is violating universal access to telecommunications for future generations. “We are talking about committing a business that in the world industry does not have an expiration date, but on the contrary has a projection of exponential growth.”
“In addition to the privatization initiatives, we have an administration that has not shown sensitivity to the proposals of the workers and the advances continue to be insufficient,” denounces SUTEL.
In this regard, the union indicates that almost two years after the consolidation of ANTEL’s current board of directors, the following points remain unresolved, among others: “The set of budgets, the entry of personnel who meet the minus the budget norm, the recognition of careers necessary for the development of our company, delays in the negotiations of the Variable Remuneration System that have not allowed us to recover salary, stagnation in the regularization of outsourcing and equalization of working conditions with public workers, and Incorporation of precarious contracts in ‘Accesa’, and increased demands for the call center without improving working conditions”.
By virtue of the foregoing, the SUTEL congress declared the union in conflict, accompanied by an action plan that allows it to locate ANTEL’s defense in its full dimension.
“Against all the dismantling initiatives, whether they are those defined by the Executive Power, the Ministry of Industry, URSEC, or by the current administration that does not solve the structural problems of the company, disregarding the demands of the workers of which we are a substantial part” , sentenced SUTEL.
