The sustainable turn celebrates 15 years of history with free and decentralized programming in São Paulo in the year of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, COP30, which will be held in November in Belém. 
From September 17 to 21, the largest sustainability festival in Latin America occupies several spaces in the state capital. Artistic facilities, fairs, exhibitions, performances, workshops, shows, cinema, debates and the Sustainable Virada Forum are part of the program.
At the São Paulo Cultural Center (CCSP), one of the highlights is the exhibition of Araquém Alcântara, one of the forerunners of nature photography in Brazil. There are also a show by singer Mariana Aydar and session of Anna Muylaert’s film, “The best mother in the world”.
Held in partnership with the United Nations (UN) in Brazil, the sustainable turn completes 15 years of existence with the mark of 55 editions held in several cities of the country. In São Paulo, this is the 15th edition.
Artistic works that have become emblematic throughout these years of history of the event will be exposed, constituting a proposal for a temporary sustainability museum. Also at CCSP, lectures and debates on cities, environment, society and economics will be held within the forum.
Reference names such as Maria Beatriz Nogueira, head of the UN UN Refugees (UNUR) are confirmed; Rodrigo Perpétuo, Executive Secretary of Iclei South America, International Association of Local and Subnational Governments dedicated to sustainable development; and Kamila Camilo, activist, social entrepreneur and founder of the Oya Institute and Creators Academy.
Also assembled will be artistic installations of lixomania and oxyl, recognized by the performance in urban art, such as graffiti and pixo, as well as unhealthy installation of spparis, which denounces the destructive cycle of fast fashion and its socio -environmental impacts. The works aim to stimulate reflections on consumption and waste.
Activities by the city
At Casa das Rosas, a museum located on Paulista Avenue, there will be a fair of thrift stores, exhibitions, music, as well as the resistance roots, with indigenous activist Txai Suruí, Jaci Martins of Guarani Mbya people, Day Moreira also indigenous activist, mediated by Chirley Pankará, pedagogue, master in education and environmental activist.
The indigenous agenda will be reinforced in activities carried out in the free gap of the São Paulo Art Museum Assis Chateaubriand (MASP). On site, the public will be able to watch more artistic performances and presentations by artists of the Fulni-ô.
In Pindomirim village, in the Jaraguá Indigenous Land, there will be an unprecedented exhibition in the city, with images of the Ruinas da Floresta project, Brazilian photographer and journalist Rafael Vilela, winner of Poy-Lam 2025, important Ibero-American documentary photography contest. The exhibition will be in São Paulo for the first time after season in London, the United Kingdom.
In the bike path on the banks of the Pinheiros River, in the west of the city, the Capivaras artistic installation will draw the public’s attention. It is an inflatable sculpture four meters high, in the form of capybara, representing a female and its puppy. Created by artist Eduardo Baum, the work symbolizes the silent role of these great rodents in environmental balance.
The art of muralism also integrates the programming of this edition of Virada Sustainable. A new mural, produced by the worldly activist, located at 930 of Jaceguai Street, is already visible to those who pass the address. The 195.5 square meter work is a tribute to the pickers and the collectors of recyclable materials. The mural was made with paints produced from the gray of the burnt forest in the Anambé village, located in Pará, as well as clays collected in various regions of the state.
The variety of programming extends to public spaces in other regions of the city, such as Unified Educational Centers Units (CEUs), Commerce Social Service Units (Sesc), Basic Health Units (UBSS) and parks.
From São Paulo, the festival will leave for Rio de Janeiro, with programming between October 16 and 19.
