Urbanism centered on people, positive evaluation from the Municipality
The Director of Neighborhood Management made a highly positive evaluation of the dimension that the People-Centered Urbanism Project that has been carried out together with the Technological University has taken.
As you may remember, this year ended with two teams of UTEC students proposing two digital solutions for sustainable mobility in the capital of the department of Cerro Largo.
By the beginning of 2025, the decision that the Evaluation Committee will make will be known and that proposal put into practice.
“This has been a collaborative process. We at the Municipality are super happy, we are very satisfied with what has been developing so far. Since UTEC landed in the city of Melo, it has already started working on the urban planning challenges that exist here. This already strengthens one of the aspects that interests us greatly, which is the work between institutions for the good of the citizen. In this case, the work has been carried out by the Municipality and UTEC, but we are in favor of the fact that all institutions have to work together to generate more benefits for the population.” pointed out the Professor Natalia Vizcaíno.
“On the other hand there is citizen participation. “This project unites both things: work between institutions and community participation.” highlighted in an interview with THE DIARY PROFESSIONAL.
SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY AND URBAN TRANSPORTATION
“In particular, I have the commitment to continue working on the issue of sustainable mobility and urban transportation” he remarked. “For me it is an important thing because it marks a milestone in what a healthy, well-developed society means” he pointed out.
“It is very good that people decide or have public transport and other means as sustainable options” accurate. “Sometimes it happens here that we have these challenges in terms of urban transportation and we believe that we are going to improve it” trust. “We are not going to do it in one day of course not because like everything it is going to take a process. In this, as in everything, perseverance wins over the rest.” Vizcaíno stated.
“We have met people of all ages here who have voluntarily joined in to give their opinion. We have really loved the exchange we have been able to do with them” said.
The Director of Neighborhood Management highlighted the commitment of the team of UTEC teachers and students. “The students made an impressive effort in presenting these digital solutions that have now passed to the Evaluation Committee of which I am also a part. It is in that area that it develops and moves forward.”
He considered that the city of Melo was missing an Application with information on urban transportation because ultimately information is nothing more and nothing less than accessibility.
WORK OF VARIOUS AREAS OF THE INTENDENCE
In relation to having the bus route in real time through an APP on the cell phone, he said that both Neighborhood Management and other areas of the Municipality – Traffic, Communication, Environment, General Secretariat and Education – work together. because it is a cross-cutting issue. “Then there are a lot of other things like the issue of stops, the location of the bus, the service in general and things that already transcend mobility in general: pedestrians, people who have accessibility problems. In short, there are a lot of edges that later end up touching” held.
“We are excited and want to continue working on this. For what we have done so far, we thank all the information and everything that people have told us because it helps us make better decisions.” Natalia Vizcaíno concluded by saying.
