Sustainable DO Trust reaffirms its commitment to transform waste management in the country

The executive director of the Public-Private Trust for Comprehensive Solid Waste Management, Armando Paíno Henríquez, assured that the projects that the Government will execute in the 2022-2024 period will have an impact of over 50% of solid waste management of all country.

The official recalled that the sustainable DO trust was created with the approval of Law 225-20, on solid waste management, with the aim of achieving landfills with international standards for the correct management of waste such as sanitary landfills and recovery plants.

“The purpose is to make use of the waste produced throughout the country to generate fuel,” said Paino Henríquez, during his participation in the program El Sol de la Tarde.

He stated that in the Dominican Republic there are 240 landfills, of which 235 are open and emit methane, one of the main responsible for global warming worldwide.

The director of the Public-Private Trust indicated that this is why he has a firm commitment to educate and make the population aware of the proper management of solid waste, which he considers a key piece for the sustainable future of the country.

Paíno Henríquez said that among the projects he plans to implement is the “school residue O” program, which promises, hand in hand with the Ministry of Education, to impact students and teachers in the national territory.

Referring to the interventions carried out by the Directorate of Strategic Projects and Special Programs of the Presidency (Propeep) in different landfills in the country, Paíno clarified that since the Solid Waste Law is from November 2020, there were a series of landfills that needed to be intervened in an emergency due to their impact on the environment, for which President Luis Abinader instructed that entity to execute those plans, but as they are completed they will be operated and supervised by a sustainable DO.
