The United States (USA) Department of State temporarily suspended, starting this Wednesday (21), the issuance of new immigration visas to citizens of 75 countries, including Brazil.
To measure, announced on January 14changes the processing of applications for permanent residence by citizens of nations classified as “high risk of using social benefits”.
To justify the review of all immigration policies for that country, the State Department said that United States President Donald Trump has made it clear that immigrants must be financially self-sufficient and must not “represent a financial burden on Americans”.
“The State Department [dos Estados Unidos] is conducting a complete review of all policies, regulations and guidelines to ensure that immigrants from these high-risk countries do not utilize social assistance programs in the United States or become a burden to the State”, says the official publication.
Exceptions
Tourist and temporary work visas remain validaccording to a published report on the website of the United States Embassy in Brazil. Tourist visas will also continue to be issued as they are considered non-immigrant visas
In addition to these cases, Those who already have a valid immigrant visa will not have the document revoked, which maintains the right to travel subject to admission by the United States Department of Homeland Security.
Dual nationals who present another valid passport from a country not listed above are exempt from this break.
Regular procedures
Despite the suspension of delivery of the final document, the administrative steps remain. According to the official statement from the North American diplomatic representation in Brazil, applicants can continue submitting their visa applications and attending scheduled interviews at the respective US embassies and consulates.
However, the foreign ministry warned that no immigrant visas will actually be issued while the US State Department directive is in effect.
THE Brazil Agency sought the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) for a position on the suspension of visa issuance for Brazilian applicants and is awaiting a response.
