Insurance risk strike for workers of the Co-Impacta cooperative at the Melo senior day center
The employees of the Co-Impacta cooperative, which provides services at the day center for the elderly in the Los Vascos neighborhood, are in a critical situation after the suspension of the financial items that the Ministry of Social Development (Mides) was supposed to transfer.
According to sources close to the center, the delay in payment of the items corresponding to the cooperative’s service generates a serious financial imbalance, which could lead to the sending of some of the staff to unemployment insurance starting this Tuesday.
The service is managed by Co-Impacta, a cooperative made up of the workers themselves who organized years ago to ensure the continuity of the center, after AIAMCEL – owner of the building – withdrew from the agreement with Mides. The property, located in the Los Vascos neighborhood, was built with the support of the community, raffles and contributions from the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works.
Currently, six officials make up the technical and workshop teams that serve older adults daily, providing support, recreational and therapeutic activities. However, the delay in sending public funds has left the cooperative without sufficient resources to cover salaries and maintain its normal operations.
The situation has already been communicated to the national and departmental authorities, although so far no concrete response has been obtained that would allow the scenario to be reversed.
Neighbors and service users value the social role of the center, which constitutes a space of containment and well-being for older adults. “While there is talk of strengthening social policies, programs that really benefit the community are left without financial support,” lamented those close to the workers.
It is expected that in the next few hours Mides will rule on the delay in departures and define whether there will be measures to guarantee the continuity of the service and the livelihood of the affected officials.
