The Rio Health Department recently reported that, until this Sunday (3), the number of suspected cases of monkeypox (monkeypox) reported in the state rose to 49. Until last Friday (1st), there were 39 cases. notified of the disease.
Of the 49 cases, 16 were confirmed, with ten patients in the city of Rio, including the one who came from London, England, to the capital; three in Maricá, in the Lagos Region; one in Queimados, residing in Portugal, and one in Nova Iguaçu, both municipalities in the Baixada Fluminense; and one in Niterói, in the metropolitan region of Rio, who came from England. Ten cases are still under investigation and 23 have been discarded.
Confirmed and suspected cases are monitored daily by the Health Department and the Health Surveillance teams of the municipalities, the agency said through the press office.
The secretariat recalled, however, that although the disease was identified for the first time in monkeys, the current outbreak is not related to these animals.
