Survey raises second round scenario in 2024

Encuesta plantea escenario de segunda vuelta en 2024

If the elections were held today, Abinader would get 47.7% of the vote, Leonel 27%, Abel 14.8%, Guillermo Moreno 1.8% and Miguel Vargas 1.2%.

If the elections were today the president Luis Abinader would obtain 47.7% of the votes, followed by Leonel Fernández, who would get 27%, and Abel Martínez, with 14.8%, according to a survey released yesterday by the Markestrategia polling firm.

In fourth place would be Guillermo Moreno, of the Alianza País Party (AlPaís), who would get 1.8%, and in fifth place Miguel Vargas, of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), who would achieve 1.2% of the votes.

As the survey proposes a second round scenario, the process would be won by Abinader, who would obtain 55.8% of the votes, against 33.9% that former President Fernández would achieve.

In the event that the candidates in the second round were Luis Abinader and Abel Martínez, the president would obtain 57.7% and the candidate of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) would obtain 30.2 percent.

Abinader would win

Despite the fact that the survey does not give any winner in the first round, 55.2% of the people interviewed do not believe that there is a need for a second round in the 2024 presidential elections.

In another order, when the scenario of a possible alliance in the first round between the People’s Force (FP) and the PLD is raised, 48.3% of those surveyed understand that Leonel Fernández should be the candidate, against 38.1% who prefer Abel Martinez.

When respondents are asked if they believe that the PLD has a chance of returning to government in 2024, 58.3% answered no and 31.2% yes.

On possible alliances

Regarding the possibility of alliances for the municipal elections, 39.1% reject an electoral agreement between the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) and the PLD, while 24% would support it. If the alliance in this area were between the FP and the PRM, 37.6% disagree and 24.3% agree.

Unsafety

With regard to citizen security, 43.8% of the people surveyed believe that crime is the most important problem that the country currently has.

In that same order, 43.2% of those interviewed said that in their day-to-day life they feel insecure when going out into the streets, added to 25.9% who say they feel very insecure.

26% say they feel safe on the streets and 3.2 percent very safe.

Data sheet

A communication from Markestrategia indicates that the survey was carried out on people registered in the registry of the Central Electoral Board (JCE), with a sample of 1,200 respondents and a confidence level of 95%.

The study, carried out on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of this year and at the request of Dominican businessmen, covered the entire national territory, with face-to-face interviews, using questionnaires with closed questions.
