Sures: The blockade violates the rights of women and girls

The human rights of women and girls are violated thanks to the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and the European Union, the Human Rights Organization denounced before the Committee for the Elimination of Discrimination against Women of the United Nations Organization Sures.

Ana Salazar, spokesperson for Sures, explained that Venezuela has suffered two situations in recent years that have caused serious consequences that violate the human rights of the people, and in particular, women and girls.

“The first is linked to the application of unilateral, criminal and illegal coercive measures, aimed at destroying the economy, destabilizing democracy and ending the inclusive social model recognized by the United Nations, and verified in her recent visit to Venezuela by the rapporteur on the impact of unilateral coercive measures on human rights,” Salazar explained.

The second event is, according to Sures’s spokeswoman, the serious consequences generated by the covid-19 pandemic that exacerbated injustices and deepened existing inequalities, “with negative consequences for human rights, accentuated in our country by the blockade that we are already experiencing, which has not ceased in times of pandemic but, on the contrary, has resulted in unequal access to vaccines and treatments”.

“These situations have generated an atypical economic migration of Venezuelans in recent years. Our investigations show that women and girls have been trafficked by criminal organizations. Those of reproductive age have suffered violations of their rights in destination countries. Discrimination and differential treatment, particularly in access to medical care and in the labor market,” denounced Ana Salazar.
