In the last few hours, the promoters of the referendum issued a proclamation in which they express that Uruguayans have the right to give their opinion on 135 articles directly related to their lives, their future, also that of their family and with the democratic accumulation in Uruguay.
“We speak of democratic accumulation, because the 135 articles represent the denial of social achievements of our country. Accumulation that was built during many decades of democracy, with a plural vision, both of the political and social sectors”, they state.
For this reason, they assure that annulling the “terrible 135 articles” has as its objective that there are no “omnibus” laws of Urgent Consideration. “That distorts the Constitution and the Republic.”
They also indicated that “it is false” that they intend to prevent the government from fulfilling its responsibilities, “because it has the largest number of articles (341) approved urgently, on dozens of different subjects.”
“Therefore, this desperate argument has no basis, in addition, the government has the institutional instruments to complete its mandate, as it obviously should be,” they said.

“We do not want them to start an escalation of emergency laws with hundreds and even thousands of articles approved urgently and without the necessary debate. We are defending the republic and democracy,” they say.
They also denounced that “the most dangerous and negative thing are the threatening speeches, the climate of violence that is being created by some, spokesmen for the ‘No’”.
