Support of a group of citizens to constitutional reform

A group of men and women who identified themselves as members of the Cambiemos Citizen Coalition gathered this Monday morning in front of the Government Palace to express their support for President Luis Abinader’s proposal to amend the Constitution to institute independent justice. .

They fear that, with the current scheme, if the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), the People’s Force (FP) and the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) return to power, they will reverse the advances that, according to them, the administration of Miriam Germán, in the Attorney General’s Office.

“We are convinced that the country cannot afford to go back what we have advanced, by achieving an independent Public Ministry for the first time in history,” said Roberto Suero, secretary general of the Coalition.

These citizens affirmed that their movement is independent of political parties and that it has been in existence for more than two years.

They accused former President Leonel Fernández of institutionalizing corruption and taking it to unsuspected levels, in the Constitutional reform of the year 2010 with the inclusion of the Attorney General of the Republic in the National Council of the Judiciary.
