Superintendence of Electricity clarifies salary adjustments

Superintendencia de Electricidad aclara ajustes salariales

After the claims for an alleged salary increase in the Superintendency of Electricity, this regulatory body issued a statement today in which it indicates the motivations for the aforementioned increase and that it is not recent as has been manifested in social networks and alternative media.

It should be noted that this entity is not part of the State budgetary system, nor is it governed by the civil service law.

Release

In the Superintendency of Electricity (SIE) We have always acted with transparency. We are a decentralized, autonomous, non-financial regulatory body, with legal personality under public law, its own assets and the capacity to acquire, exercise rights and incur obligations in accordance with the General Electricity Law 125-01.

We also clarify that, as indicated by Law 125-01 and its Application Regulations in article 37, the main source of income for this SIE comes from the legal contribution of 1% of total sales in the wholesale electricity market made by companies. that operate in the area of generation, transmission and distribution of electricity.

Regarding the information published on the economic compensations in this entity, we clarify that, in May 2021, the SIE Council approved a salary adjustment of 9.5% for all employees of the institution, which became effective on September 1 of last year.

This salary adjustment is not recent, as it has been erroneously communicated by certain malicious sources, to divert attention from what is really important.

Said measure was adopted in view of the fact that for 5 years no salary adjustment had been made. to all the collaborators of the entity. The last review of salaries for all SIE staff occurred in 2016, so This salary update, which corresponded to 11%, was produced to offset the accumulated inflation recorded in recent years for all employees.

We must emphasize that, due to the nature of the Superintendence of Electricity, the institution is not part of the National State Budget, is not subject to the guidelines of Law 41-08 on Public Function and its Application Regulations, as well as Law 105-13 on Salary Regulation of the Dominican State.

Therefore, the remunerations, as established in article 31 of the Electricity Law 125-01, will not be subject to the regulations that regulate those of the public administration personnel, but will be set in accordance with the market conditions for the highest executive positions in the private sector.

As the institution responsible for the regulation and supervision of the electricity subsector, in the Superintendency of Electricity reiterate our commitment to continue working with transparency as we have done so far.

Along the same lines, this Superintendency has been recognized by the General Directorate of Ethics and Government Integrity, for our transparent and efficient management in public administration. (Letter attached).

We have always made available, in a timely manner, to the public all the information concerning the actions of this SIE in our transparency portal and we will continue to do so.
