Last Friday, the Ministry of Health confirmed the first case of the influenza A H3N2 subtype K virus in Mexico City.
In the morning conference this Tuesday, the secretary explained that the “super flu” that has circulated mainly in Europe and the United States is more contagious, but clarified that it is prevented with the vaccine.
“It is a variant that is prevented with the influenza vaccine that we have available in Mexico, it is not a special variant but rather it is within our vaccine, it is protected and vaccination also prevents serious cases and admission to hospitals,” he commented.
The secretary called on Mexicans to get vaccinated against influenza and explained that the Mexinvac vaccine applied in 2024 and 2025 is completely produced in Mexico and is available to cover the population at risk.
Kershenobich reported that those who should be vaccinated are:
-All girls and boys between six months and five years.
-People 60 years of age or older.
-People with risk factors (diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, obesity, asthma or diseases that compromise the immune system)
“We are at approximately 50% of the population’s vaccination and we urge everyone to go to the vaccination centers to get the vaccine. Furthermore, in case the new variant emerges more frequently, as I tell you, it can be prevented,” he indicated.
