News Colombia.
The National Government, led by President Gustavo Petro, has announced a significant reduction in the cost of passports, which will come into effect on October 3, 2024.
Luis Gilberto Murillo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that the price of an ordinary passport in Colombia will be reduced by 12%, from 207,000 to 180,000 pesos.
This measure comes amid the transition in the entity responsible for issuing the document, which will now be managed by the National Printing Office in alliance with a strategic partner.
New prices and expansion in border areas
The adjustment not only affects ordinary passports, but also those issued in border areas, whose cost will drop from 125,000 to 100,000 pesos.
Likewise, the passport for Colombians abroad will also have new rates: in the United States it will cost US$82, while in Europe the price will drop from 68 to 60 euros.
Minister Murillo explained that this reduction is possible thanks to an exhaustive analysis of the production costs of the passport, facilitated by the change of the processing entity.
“We have carried out the necessary analyses and studies to guarantee a fair price for the passport”the chancellor said in an interview with Blu Radio.
Extended business hours for procedures
In addition to the reduction in prices, an extension of the opening hours for passport issuance in the main offices in the country has been announced, in order to facilitate access to the document, especially during this transition period.
With these measures, the government seeks to make passport processing more accessible for Colombians, responding to the growing demand for this key document for international travel and other consular procedures.
