While the students are already returning to face-to-face classes, the National Superintendence of Sanitation Services (sunass) detected 213 public schools with the drinking water service cut off, among other things, due to non-payment, and also with a total debt that exceeds S/ 1 million.
The analysis of the last billing cycle of 41 of the 50 existing companies that reported to Sunass, also indicated that the service interruption of the 213 public schools would affect more than 86,000 students (considering an average of 407 students per school). ), who would not have the drinking water service to comply with biosecurity measures and meet their health needs.
He explained that the largest number of schools with suspended services would correspond to the area of attention of the company EPS Grau (Piura) with 73, followed by Sedapar (Arequipa) and Sedalib (Trujillo) with 34 each and Emapacop (Pucallpa) and Seda Chimbote ( Chimbote) with 10 respectively.
school debts
In addition, the entity found schools that have a debt for non-payment of drinking water and sanitation services, which in total amounts to S / 1,085,342 soles, according to the last billing cycle of the 41 companies that reported to the Sunass.
The companies that have schools with the highest debt are EPS Grau (Piura) with S/ 269,899.19, Sedalib (Trujillo) with S/ 201,548.71, Sedapal (Lima and Callao) with S/ 127,173.14 and Sedapar (Arequipa) with S/ 92,323.15.
Sunass indicated that the schools have been regularizing their debts for the water and sanitation service, in relation to the billing cycle of November 2021, when the monitoring process began by the regulator, the date on which the overdue debts amounted to S / 6 ′475, 725.
However, there are still schools with overdue debts and, even though some companies have not applied the corresponding service cut when more than two months overdue, it does not mean that at some point they apply it, which is a risk for a safe return to lessons.
