The executive president of the National Superintendence of Sanitation Services (Sunass), Mauro Gutiérrez, reported that the entity he directs will reinforce the investments in the sector sanitation.
“We are monitoring the investments programmed in the plan of the water companies. At present, there is a delay in its execution. But, now, Sunass does biannual follow-up of the progress in the investments”, he said.
In addition, he mentioned that the issue of drinking water is on the public agenda, since water has multidimensional effects on health, education, gender, among others.
DRINKING WATER FOR SCHOOLS
Gutiérrez also indicated that among the goals of his management is that, in the next 4 years, the schoolchildren of schools They can drink safe water, directly from the pipe.
For this, Gutiérrez said that the levels of chlorine in the water of public schools will be measured, in order to ensure its quality. In addition, he indicated that his management will reinforce investments in the sanitation sector, to close the gap in drinking water service coverage among the population of urban, peri-urban and rural areas, which are not connected to the public network.
“Fares are an important component, but the need to close the gap must get us all aligned”Gutierrez said.
He stated that close to 10% of the national population, that is, 3.1 million people, are not connected to the network and it is precisely this population that pays the most expensive water. “People who do not have a connection pay S / 16.00 on average for water per cubic meter, that is, 6 times more compared to those of us who have water through the network,” she said.
