At the Real de San Carlos Bullring, in Colonia, the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) launched the start of the season
The day was headed by the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, who highlighted the quality of this sector, since it stimulates entrepreneurs, generates employment and provides opportunities to participants. “Tourism, essentially, is an activity that makes one happy,” he said.
The event, which marks the beginning of tourist operations for the summer season, was also attended by the Minister of Tourism, Eduardo Sanguinetti; the undersecretary of that portfolio, Remo Monzeglio; the national director of Tourism, Roque Baudean; the mayor of Colonia, Carlos Moreira, and the president of the National Ports Administration, Juan Curbelo, as well as departmental authorities. Likewise, operators from the hotel, gastronomic and transportation sectors attended, among others that make up the tourism sector.
In his speech, Lacalle Pou congratulated MINTUR for the work it performs, and the Chamber of Tourism for its resilience in difficult times and its demonstrated proactivity. Regarding the sector’s task, he considered it to be one of the most virtuous that individuals carry out, since it encourages entrepreneurship, generates work and allows us to meet other people and participate in culture in society. Finally, he stressed the joy that comes from developing tourist activities.
Sanguinetti, for his part, highlighted the emblematic nature of the venue of the meeting and stated that this is expected to be a very good season. In that sense, he believed that this is revealed by the available data and the quantity and quality of the events already scheduled.
Regarding the different facets of Uruguay, he maintained that, in addition to sun and beach, there are different proposals dedicated to nature, such as parks and reserves; He also referred to heritage tourism, which encourages getting to know emblematic places. The Secretary of State highlighted, in particular, the quality of the services offered in the country and congratulated the operators for this degree of excellence. He also highlighted the support of the portfolio in training.
At the event, MINTUR presented, through an audiovisual piece, a new brand, called Uruguay is More than a Country, which, according to the head of the portfolio, is added to Uruguay Natural. Likewise, a national manufacturing fair was held, in which the different municipalities exhibited gastronomic and artisan products, among others.
