Súmate demanded that the National Electoral Council (CNE) inform whether, in the 2023 budget, items were included for the execution of the main preparatory activities for the 2024 presidential elections

In a press release, released this Thursday, November 17, the civil association referred to activities prior to the elections, such as the continuous and effective updating of the Electoral Registry. (RE).

Likewise, he stressed that within the items the resources must be provided for the selection of the members of the Subaltern Electoral Organizations (OES), the registration and renewal of organizations with political purposes, the realization of an information and advertising campaign to motivate the registration and updating in the RE and the mandatory electoral service, among others.

The civil association highlights that the budget must also include items for carrying out activities that are required to be carried out in the event that requests for recall referendums proceed for popularly elected positions that meet half of their term in 2023, in attention to article 72 of the Constitution. In the case of the deputies of the National Assembly (AN), referendum requests can be made as of July 5, 2023.

Also, remember Súmate, for state governors and legislators, referendum requests can be made as of November 21, 2023.

In correspondence with the CNE, Súmate requested access to the 2023 budget in the exercise of the right to “the participation of the people in the formation, execution and control of public management” (article 62 of the Constitution).

On the other hand, the association emphasizes that, among the challenges of the CNE for 2023, is to reduce the gap estimated so far in 2022 of more than 3 million 500 thousand Venezuelans between 18 and 45 years of age who are not registered in the RE and facilitate the updating of data of another 2 million 600 thousand voters within the country.
