Suicidal ideation occurs when a person has thoughts about taking their own life, which can escalate from a desire to developing a detailed plan to carry it out, explains the federal agency in its manual for attention to suicidal behaviors.
This year, the states with the most cases of suicidal ideation are the State of Mexico, with 308; Mexico City, with 249; Nuevo León, with 159; Nayarit, with 144, as well as Guanajuato and Tabasco, with 135 cases each.
Suicidal ideation can be the first phase before a person commits suicide and that is why it is essential to address it.
“The detection of suicidal thoughts or ideas should be taken seriously (…) due to the possibility of suicidal ideas being carried out,” the document details.
In the same period of time, cases of attempted suicide decreased 29% nationwide, going from 5,600 until the end of September 2023 to 3,988 in the same period of 2024.
