Submerged: 541 thousand workers with salaries below 25 thousand pesos

From 2020 to the first half of 2022, some 541,000 workers received less than 25,000 pesos per month. This was reported by the Cuesta Duarte Institute.

Despite the economic recovery that already shows levels of activity higher than those in force before the pandemic, real wages are at levels lower than those registered 3 years ago, according to an analysis by Cuesta Duarte.

“The fall in real wages that has been recorded since 2020 has caused an increase in the proportion of workers with submerged wages. In the first half of 2022, more than 541,000 employed persons received remunerations below $25,000 liquid per month for 40 hours of weekly work, representing 35% of the total.

According to Cuesta Duarte, “among wage earners, workers with submerged wages of less than $25,000 liquid per month amount to 320,000, which represents 29% of the total.”
