Various incidents have been recorded outside the National Institute, where demonstrators remain confronted with Carabineros, throwing, among other objects, Molotov cocktails.
In that sense, a subject was detained by police personnel wearing white overalls. According to preliminary information, he would be a teenager and it is still being investigated if he carried or threw some type of combustible liquid in the sector.
This, within the framework of the various demonstrations of students from emblematic high schools belonging to the commune of Santiago and Providencia, who are mobilized demanding, mainly, improvements in the conditions of the establishments and in the food they receive.
This was stated by the spokesman for the student assembly of the Barros Arana National Boarding School to radio dnapointing out the different points they seek with the demonstrations.
“We demand that the important points of our petition be recognized more: demunicipalization of the Barros Arana National Boarding School, an end to political persecution through the Safe Classroom, improvement of infrastructure and rehabilitation of spaces at risk of collapse,” he said.
In this sense, Aguilera summoned the Minister of Education, Marco Antonio Ávila, and the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, to dialogue with them with “concrete answers.” This petition is similar to that of the president of the National Institute’s student center, Daniel Jaque, who met with the mayor of Santiago, Irací Hassler, and delivered his demands, such as the improvement of classrooms and bathrooms.
These demonstrations have not been without incidents, in which Molotov cocktails have been thrown at Carabineros outside the National Institute and the burning of a public transport bus in front of the Liceo Barros Borgoño.
In this way, there are currently four emblematic high schools that are occupied and another two unemployed in the commune of Santiago and Providencia. As for the establishments in question, there are the José Victorino Lastarria High School, the Luisa Saavedra de González High School 7, the Barros Arana National Boarding School and the Application High School. The National Institute is the only educational center unemployed.
