Study: 89% of Dominicans have high confidence in vaccines

89% of Dominicans have high trust in the vaccinesaccording to the study “Index of trust in vaccines in the Dominican Republic: results of the national survey”.

This was reported by Manuel Colomé, manager of Epidemiology at the Dr. Hugo Mendoza Pediatric Hospital, one of the collaborators of this research, during his presentation at the First Latin American Conference of Vaccinologywhich was part of the round table “Trust in vaccines: experiences, strategies and challenges in the Region”.

However, he said that when analyzing the data, in terms of sociodemographic factors, the levels of trust vary greatly around the gender.

He study points out that the trust increases with the agebut it is lower in men and in people with university education.

Colomé said that these factors offer key points to understand which groups might need a special approach to improve trust in the vaccines.

The teacher also understands that age influences in the sense that, being a young person, you have more access to what the networks socialwhere there is an excess of information which is often not true.

“Due to the infodemic and misinformation, anyone, if misguided, can get a bad message and therefore be a propagator”Manuel ColomeEpidemiology Manager of the Dr. Hugo Mendoza Pediatric Hospital

“We have to rethink a little, because imagine that man university graduates and then ends up forming a familyalready that family then that message of distrust in the vaccines“, he cited as an example during his presentation.

  • Vaccine Accessibility

Colomé asserted that another key part of the study has to do with the accessibility from the people to the vaccinessince many are willing to get vaccinated, but do not have the resources necessary.

According to the research, only 24% consider they have enough resources economical to pay vaccinesif necessary.

  • Motivation to protect

He study also points out that a high percentage considers that vaccines are essential to prevent diseases serious, although concerns remain about the effects secondary, underlining the importance of effective communication about the safety of vaccines.

In that sense, Colomé maintained that if people had greater information about the effects secondary Maybe I could improve the coverage a little more. vaccination.

Pediatricians are the fountain further reliableespecially in the 25-44 age group, according to the study.

The networks social they have less trust general, but they are relatively more consulted by young people, which indicates the importance of adapting the campaigns informative to different media.

About vaccines against Covid-19

In another order, after the speculations that have been created in the society around the effects secondary that “has stopped” the vaccine against Covid-19, Colomé assured that it is only a matter of myths.

“Correlation does not imply causation, that is, the fact that a person was vaccinated and crossed the street and was hit by a car does not mean that they were hit by the vaccine”Manuel ColomeEpidemiology Manager of the Dr. Hugo Mendoza Pediatric Hospital

He recalled that the main cause of death in the world is diseases cardiovascularso a heart attack is what most people die from.

But he also pointed out that “it has already been detected that Covid-19 produces a inflammation of the plate of atheroma, which produces an alteration, a vasculitisand that reduces what is the constructiveness of the glasses bloodso therefore, if the possibility of contraction of the blood vessel is reduced, the pressure arterial and that can favor heart attacks.
