SANTO DOMINGO.- The Flavio Suero Student Front (FEFLAS) and the Student Front of Liberation Amín Abel Hasbún (Felabel) remembered the legacy of Amin Abel Hasbún, when commemorating this September 24 55 years of his murder.
Student organizations defined Amin Abel Hasbún, as a brilliant engineering student at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo, a revolutionary leader committed to social justice, a member of the Dominican Popular Movement (MPD) and a tireless defender of public and free public education as a people’s right.
´´Amin did not fall in vain: he fell because he demanded what they still deny us today. His spilled blood is a call not to stay with a crossed arms in front of the injustices we live inside the university. ´´The student affirmed.
´´Afield your memory lives, we continue to face problems that limit our right to study with dignity. The shortage of sections delays thousands of students. Teachers are missing, teaching weakens for overload and poor planning. Classrooms, laboratories and library are deteriorated and do not meet the current demands. The state investment is insufficient, leaving the public university with minimal resources. ´´ The student leaders expressed
In addition to recalling this day, they demanded from the central government: more sections and sufficient schedules, quality public education, with real investment in infrastructure, technology and human resources, transparency and student participation in academic and budgetary decisions, a State commitment to the Public University.
Finally, they express that they not only remember Amin, but they claim it, because with their example he taught that education is not requested as favor, it is demanded and that continuing to fight as he did, firmly, with courage and with the conviction that education is a right, not a privilege, is the task.
