Student injured three students in Táchira to fulfill a viral challenge

A high school student injured three people with a knife inside the Colegio Virgen del Valle Educational Unit, located in the Cárdenas municipality (Táriba), Táchira, in compliance with a viral challenge, according to a report.

The incident was confirmed by police authorities, who specified that the injured (mother, daughter and a teacher) received medical attention and are out of danger.

After learning of the event, members of the Cárdenas Municipal Police Station went to the aforementioned school and spoke with its director, who informed them that the event took place in the cafeteria area.

In that place there was a high school student, transmitting a live video with a cell phone. In the middle of that transmission, the student attacked the lady in charge of the cafeteria and her daughter with a knife. A teacher who was in a classroom heard the screams, came out and grabbed the student, who also injured his arms with the knife, a source explained.

The teenager was taken to the Cárdenas municipality police command to begin investigations.

In this regard, the management of the aforementioned school issued a statement confirming the fact, which it called “an irregular situation.”

The school’s statement states that “this regrettable fact is linked to the excessive and unsupervised use of mobile devices and social networks, in the context of the so-called ‘viral challenges’ which represent a serious risk to the safety and well-being of our children and adolescents.”

The document says that the events occurred at approximately 7:20 am this Wednesday at the Baccalaureate I campus during the process of incorporating a student into his second day of classes of the 2025-2026 school year.

”In a responsible manner we want to point out that this regrettable fact is linked to the excessive and unsupervised use of mobile devices and social networks, in the context of the so-called ”viral challenges” which represent a serious risk for the safety and well-being of our children and adolescents,” says Colegio Virgen del Valle in the statement released.

The educational institution clarifies that it acted immediately together with the management, teaching and administrative staff, with the support of the police and Civil Protection forces “managing to control the situation in a timely manner.”

The school directors called on parents and representatives ”to exercise active and constant supervision over the use that young people make of technology and platforms…”.
