A humble and old house, located in Colonia Ayapal, collapsed due to the strong winds that have been registered since last weekend in Chinandega. There was only material damage.
Firefighters and personnel from the electrical distribution company arrived at the scene to prevent the collapsed roof from causing another incident. “I had seen whirlpools, but it is the first time I have seen one like this form, with such force, it raised the entire roof on a trip,” said a frightened citizen who was passing by at the time of the incident.
When the roof fell, the rest of the wooden house belonging to the Mayorga family also collapsed. During the phenomenon, there were no people in the house, one of the oldest located in this sector of the city. “Thank God there were no injuries, no one was in the house, nor were they passing through the place at that time, otherwise it would have been fatal,” said a neighbor from Colonia Ayapal who witnessed the tragedy.

Also in the municipality of Somotillo, the intensity of the winds caused trees to fall, causing damage to a motorcycle that was parked. “I had just parked and just minutes later there was a strong wind, when we got out we saw that the almond tree fell on the motorcycle,” said its owner.
The incident occurred in the Germán Pomares neighborhood at about 11:30 in the morning. The United Firefighters came to the scene to clear the area.
winds will hold
The Observatory of Natural Phenomena (Ofena) indicated that the presence of an anticyclone system over the national territory will be generating high temperatures, a hot environment and strong winds in a large part of the country.
“The speed of the winds is expected to be the most intense in the Pacific, from the west to Rivas, with gusts that could reach between 55 and 90 kilometers per hour,” says the Ofena report.
For its part, the report from the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (Ineter) maintains that for the west today and tomorrow Friday there will be “high oceanic atmospheric pressures prevailing in Nicaragua and a trough between the southern Gulf of Mexico and northern Central America.” These climatic phenomena will be causing moderate to strong winds during the first days of this month.
Forest fire alert
The high temperatures and strong winds are cause for alert for the community members who participate in the forest brigades in the eastern regions of Chinandega, located in the buffer zone of the Chonco volcanic reserve, San Cristóbal.
“Every year, we prepare to face these threats, because unfortunately there are people who continue to damage the environment, set fires to get honey or are hunters. Many times, these carelessly cause fires,” said a volunteer community brigade member who identified himself as Pedro.
