In the state of Zulia, the tidal wave in Lake Maracaibo caused flooding, destroyed two houses and collapsed the roads in the towns of Palafitos and La Golfa, in the San Timoteo parish of the Zulia capital.

The houses were built on the lake with wood and zinc sheets, according to reports from Civil Protection of the Baralt municipality.

“The waves destroyed the paths of the palafitos of San Timoteo and flooded the streets, including the main avenue. You have to wait for the tide to go out to turn on the bilge pumps and start removing the water. Firefighters are also responding to the reports in Tomoporo de Agua and Ceuta,” reported the mayor of the entity, Ramón Bracho.

Until 5:00 pm on October 9, no injuries or missing persons were reported due to the incident, which caused some inhabitants of the Moteo sector to remove appliances from their homes and abandon them as a preventive and security measure at dawn this Sunday. In those same communities, in June it was reported that 140 houses and 18 stilt houses in the San Timoteo parish were flooded by the rains, which affected at least 400 people who live in the area.

In other areas of Zulia, in Cabimas, for example, the rains have also wreaked havoc. There, 3,200 families were affected by floods recorded on Saturday, October 8, in the Los Rosales and Las Delicias sectors. Firefighters used pumps to remove water from the affected homes.
