The Meteorological Service of the Chilean Navy has issued a warning of swells that will affect the country’s coasts in the coming days. This phenomenon, generated by the passage of a frontal system through the ocean sector, is expected to have an impact from Friday, April 26 to Sunday, April 28.
According to the report published by the organization, the storm surges are expected to affect different areas of the Chilean coast at different times and with varying intensities. From the Juan Fernández Archipelago to Arica, they are expected swells important that could cause problems in coastal areas.
In the Juan Fernández Archipelago, an increase in surf between Friday and Saturday, with the moments of greatest impact expected between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. For its part, from the Gulf of Penas to Constitución, the highest waves are expected between Friday and Sunday, concentrating between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Finally, from Constitución to Arica, an increase in waves is anticipated between Saturday and Sunday, with peaks of intensity between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
In the face of these adverse weather conditions, the necessary precautions must be taken to protect your safety and that of your property. The authorities recommend avoiding going near the coastline, especially in rocky areas, and respecting the signs on the beaches, avoiding bathing in dangerous places due to the swells.
Likewise, it is advisable to drive with caution in coastal areas and take protective measures in homes, such as protecting windows and using sandbags to prevent possible flooding. These precautions are essential to minimize the risks associated with swells.
