The Computer Work Observatory (OTI) of the Computing Trade Association (AGC) presented this week a report on job in the field of Software and Computer Services (SSI), in which they highlighted that, until the last release of information in 2022, the computer industry employs more than 142,826 workers. These employees, who mostly work in a dependency relationship, constitute a growth in employment in the sector corresponding to 44.5% compared to January 2017.
These data on the job in IT (Information Technology) were presented at the Kirchner Cultural Center (CCK), where the director of the OTI, Esteban Sargiotto, drew attention to the laws that regulate and promote this activity as the Software Promotion Law (LPS) and the Knowledge Economy Law (LEC). Sargiotto said: “the amount of subsidies that (companies) received, which only the LEC, in two years, was 42 million pesos.”
To which the director of the OTI added: “This highlights the extremely important role that the Argentine State has played, always so bastardized and always pointed out as an agent of underdevelopment, as in this case it did not have the opposite. As the Argentine State has been extremely investor in (job of the IT industry) this”.
On the other hand, Sargiotto stressed that, despite the very high increase in employment in the IT sector, the salaries in the various jobs (junior, semi-senior, senior, supervisor, etc.) offered by the sector are poorly paid. It was registered in the same period in which the report on employment was made (January 2017 to December 2022), that there is a progressive loss of purchasing power. If the previous period corresponding to 1998-2014 is considered, the loss is 20%.
