Until 3:00 p.m. this Monday, the workers of the Itaú, Santander, Citibank, BBVA, Scotiabank, HSBC and Heritage banks will be on strike for a union conflict, and in this framework several services are affected. Which is it? all those that are not related to the payment of salaries or retirements.
Within this framework, operations at the head offices, branches and agencies of private banks, such as deposits, inquiries about credit or debit cards, opening new bank accounts, complaints for lost cards and customer service will not be available. The ATMs will be available, although not the workers who can help in case of a problem or doubt with the use of them.
Juan Fernández, president of the private financial sector of the Uruguayan Banking Association (AEBU), told Coffee & Business that a union guard will be made in all the institutions to guarantee that the process and accreditation of salaries and retirements occurs normally.
“We had the responsibility of leaving union guard so that these processes do not have the slightest harm, since this is not between workers, but between workers in the financial system and private banks, who have a very opportunistic attitude,” he said.
The workers stopped their activities as a measure against a financial crisis of the Bank Retirement and Pension Funddenouncing that the banks belonging to the Association of Private Banks of Uruguay (ABPU) refuse to provide solutions to an issue that directly affects them, such as their retirement.
