Last Thursday morning, dozens of protesters took to the streets of Machu Picchu Pueblo, in the midst of a declared indefinite strike, demanding more entrance tickets for the world wonder and access for tourists stranded in the place, who cannot enter the archaeological site victims of scams from bad tourism agencies.

the dealers, the majority settlers and merchants of Machu Picchu Puebloconcentrated in the Manco Cápac square, from where they left through different arteries carrying banners and banners that demand the resignation of the Ministers of Culture and Tourism due to the chaotic panorama that is now being experienced in Machu Picchu.

The group then reached the Ruins Bridge, which connects Hiram Bingham Highway with the gateway to the world wonder, where they interrupted the passage of the buses that take and return tourists in Machu Picchu.

THE PROBLEM

We live from tourism and we demand respect for the tourist, enough of so much outrage, so much inconsideration, they get to know Machu Picchu and leave empty-handed and with a bad experience, Is this how we are going to reactivate the economy of Cusco? So we want more tourists? why this happens?”, said Ana Puma, a participant in the march.

The mayor of Machu Picchu, Darwin Baca, confirmed to Mail who started a strike in his town, where the situation is very heatedand major protest actions are not ruled out, because more tourists continue to arrive despite not having more tickets for sale.

The main claim and possible reason why so many tourists cannot access to buy tickets, it is because large-scale tourism agencies would be buying the tickets wholesale, leaving small agencies and even private tourists without an option, who are no longer able to acquire access.

This has led to complaints against some officials of Cultura Cusco, in charge of selling tickets for Machu Picchu, whom they even accuse of being orchestrated in a ‘mafia’ that enables hundreds of accesses only for some tourism companies.

In this regard, the director of the Decentralized Directorate of Culture of Cusco, Mildred Fernandez, traveled to Machu Picchu to evaluate the issue and find a solution to the conflict which is recorded by the entries for several days.
