Participatory budget is the great bet of Neighborhood Centers
To fulfill what was promised during the electoral campaign, the Municipality of Cerro Largo will begin in 2026, after the approval of the five-year budget, with the implementation of the so-called Participatory Budget.
At this time, the Neighborhood Centers area is dedicated to coordinating workshops and classes in the Communals that are operational and also to the renovation of some premises that are currently out of service.
“The activity in the community centers takes time. Many required certain repairs, there are Commissions that are functioning and others are being reorganized. Regarding the building part, we are also repairing the Barrio Humberto Pica Community, we are about to start some activity coordinating with the Catholic Church in Barrio Prieto. We are in the midst of a recovery process for the year 2026 and with the entry into force of the new budget we will try to promote social, community activity and everything that it implies. “Community Centers and the imprint that is being given to them in this Administration” expressed the Dr. Richard Fonseca.
In the Communals that are open, guitar, beauty and functional gymnastics classes are being given. At this time there is an open call for registrations for Arabic Dance by Professor Pía Escayola on Tuesdays and Thursdays in Barrio Leone while Mondays and Wednesdays will be in Barrio Ruiz. Looking ahead to next year, the aim will be to double the number of courses and workshops given in the neighborhoods as a way of decentralizing this type of proposals.
“We want to bring management to the neighborhoods, having an official in each Community Center to collect people’s demands and coordinate actions with all neighbors” Fonseca said.
“We will try to promote not only works in the neighborhoods but also cultural, sports and recreational activities, seeking to strengthen the bond of all people with the Municipality and with all the institutions that we can link them with” he committed.
“The aim will be to ensure that each decision of the Administration is the result of what the people propose to us, which is the most important thing” expressed the person in charge of Neighborhood Centers of the Municipality of Cerro Largo.
“We believe and trust that the new five-year budget will bring new developments in how management will be approached. We are going to promote the Participatory Budget so that people can choose in each area the project that they consider most valid for their neighborhood. This will strengthen the bond between the Administration and the neighbors.” he stressed.
The Mayor, who took office less than 4 months ago, is already touring the neighborhoods of Melo, visits that will be accentuated as there is progress in the reopening of new community halls. “The idea is the participation of neighbors in the management decision process, that is important, it is the idea we have, to try to dimension neighborhood participation and try to ensure that each achievement that materializes in an area or a neighborhood is a product of the neighbors’ decision. That is the idea and we are carrying it out to the extent possible” said Richard Fonseca.
