Three pedestrians – a woman, a child and an elderly man – were hit by the fall of a block wall at around 6pm, in the Samambaia neighborhood, in Bauru, in the interior of São Paulo, according to the state Civil Defense. The region was hit by heavy rain and gusts of wind, which crossed the interior of the western state towards the coast, reaching the capital in the early evening.
The rains hit several cities in the interior, with rainfall including hail and falling trees recorded in Presidente Prudente and Nova Odessa.
In the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo, there were reports on social media of falling trees and power outages in neighborhoods in the west of the capital, such as Pinheiros, and interruptions in the regions of Vila Leopoldina and Barra Funda. CPTM line 9, which connects Osasco to the south zone of São Paulo, had sections interrupted and longer downtime. The Mendes-Vila Natal and Socorro stations are without power, with no expectation of normalization.
The São Paulo City Hall Emergency Management Center confirmed six flooding points in the city, one of which was impassable. According to the Fire Department, the region recorded 14 tree falls and 2 collapses. In one of them, in Cotia, Civil Defense reported that the fall of a wall injured three other people, two seriously.
Airport
Aena, the concessionaire responsible for Congonhas airport, reported that landing and takeoff operations were suspended from 7:53 pm to 8:12 pm, and recommended that passengers contact the airlines to check the status of their flights.
During this period, six flights that would land in Congonhas were switched to other airports and two takeoffs were cancelled.
