Stock market rises 2.12% and recovers 100 thousand points

In a day of relief in the financial market, the stock market rose more than 2% and surpassed the 100,000 point mark, after spending six trading sessions below that level. The dollar fell for the first time after three straight highs, helped by international flows for most of the day.

The B3 Ibovespa index closed this Monday (27) at 100,764 points, up 2.12%. Last week, the indicator even dropped to the lowest level since November 2020.

In the foreign exchange market, the day was also marked by relief. The commercial dollar closed the day short at R$5.234, down by R$0.018 (-0.35%). The price started the day high, reaching R$ 5.27 shortly after the opening of negotiations, but reversed the movement during the morning. At the lowest of the day, around 1 pm, it reached R$ 5.20.

The exchange was helped by Petrobras, whose shares were the most traded on the Ibovespa, which recovered after the company’s Board of Directors approved the name of Caio Mário Paes de Andrade to be the new president of the state-owned company. Ordinary shares (voted at a shareholders’ meeting) rose 6.75% on Monday. Preferred shares (with priority in the distribution of dividends) jumped 6.43%.

The dollar’s fall was driven by the appreciation of commodities (primary goods with international prices) and by the relief in international risk. This led to the inflow of dollars into Brazil and other emerging countries, despite the decline in US stock markets.
