Despite pressure from abroad, the stock exchange broke record again and closed above 148 thousand points for the first time. The dollar reduced its decline towards the end of trading, but closed lower for the third session in a row.
The Ibovespa index, from B3, closed at 148,633 points, up 0.82%. The indicator reached above 149 thousand points during the afternoon, but slowed down after the speech by the president of the Federal Reserve (Fed, American Central Bank), Jerome Powell.
The foreign exchange market had a less favorable day. The commercial dollar closed this Wednesday (29) sold at R$5.358, with a decline of just 0.03%. The price fell to R$5.33 around 12:15 pm, but the currency canceled the decline near the end of negotiations, also influenced by Powell’s speeches.
The US currency is at its lowest value since October 8. The currency rises 0.69% in October, but accumulates a drop of 13.28% in 2025.
Although the Fed, as expected by the financial market, reduced basic interest rates in the United States by 0.25 percentage points, the president of the body stated, in an interview after this Wednesday’s meeting, that a new interest rate cut in December is still open and that monetary policy is unpredictable.
Despite the Fed’s uncertainty, the expectation surrounding the meeting between the presidents of the United States, Donald Trump, and China, Xi Jinping, helped emerging countries. The reduction in trade tensions between the planet’s two main economies favors exporters of commodities (primary goods with international prices), such as Brazil.
