The Superior Court of Justice (STJ) opened an internal investigation this Tuesday (4) to investigate the accusation of sexual harassment that had been committed by minister Marco Aurélio Buzzi. The minister denies the accusation, made by an 18-year-old girl.
The measure was taken unanimously by the STJ plenary. Ministers Raul Araújo, Isabel Gallotti and Antonio Carlos Ferreira were chosen as members of the commission that will analyze the accusation.
The young woman, who is the daughter of a couple of friends of the minister, accuses Buzzi of trying to grab her while swimming in the sea. The episode would have occurred last month, when the minister, the young woman and her parents spent vacations in Balneário Camboriú, on the coast of Santa Catarina.
The young woman registered a police report.
The case is also being processed by the National Council of Justice (CNJ)which investigates the administrative consequences of the complaint. The criminal part is led by the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Nunes Marques. As a minister of the STJ, Buzzi has a privileged forum in the Supreme Court.
In a note released to the press, the minister said he was surprised by the disclosure of the complaint. “Minister Marco Buzzi informs that he was surprised by the content of the insinuations published by a website, which do not correspond to the facts. He repudiates, in this sense, any and all conclusions that he committed an improper act”, he stated.
Lawyer Daniel Bialski, representing the young woman, said he expects rigor in the investigation of the case.
“As a lawyer for the victim and his family, we inform you that at this moment the most important thing is to protect them, given the very serious act committed. We await rigor in the investigations and the respective outcome before the competent bodies”, he said.
