The Federal Supreme Court (STF) informed that the Court buildings will undergo a complete sweep this morning and this Thursday morning (14) in search of explosives. The measure was taken after the explosions occurred in front of the courthouse.
Staff work was suspended until noon in the headquarters building and in the annexes, where the ministers’ offices are located. According to the Court’s press office, the situation will be re-analyzed this Thursday morning.
The explosions occurred around 7:30 pm. First, explosives were detonated in a car parked in annex 4 of the Chamber of Deputies, close to the STF. Then there was an explosion of artifacts in the author’s body of the attack, in front of the Supreme Court headquarters.
At the time of the explosions, lawyers and authorities who participated in the trial of the case that deals with the lethality of police operations in Rio de Janeiro left the Court’s plenary.
The public was frightened by the noise and was removed from the Supreme Court underground. The headquarters building was then evacuated and closed. The ministers were evacuated to safety.
Chamber
The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), suspended the House’s sessions until noon this Thursday. The measure applies to plenary sessions, committee meetings and other scheduled events.
Lira also ordered the Legislative Police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the explosion of a car near the House.
