Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the criminal action against former President Jair Bolsonaro and allies about an attempted coup, said in opening the trial of the case on Tuesday (2) that that All defendants will be judged impartially, like any citizen, without the Supreme Court (STF) to give in to any type of internal or external pressure. 
In speech before starting the reading of the Report on the casethe first step of the trial, Moraes stated that the defendants were submitted to due process of law, with broad defense and opportunity for contradictory.
If there is evidence that they are guilty, they will be convicted, but if there is “any reasonable doubt” about the authorship of the crimes, they will be acquitted. “So justice is done,” he said.
“This is the role of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), judging impartially and applying justice to each of the concrete cases, regardless of threats or coercion, ignoring internal or external pressures,” said the minister.

Without citing licensed deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), son of the former president, who has been openly acting for sanctions from the United States government against ministers of the Supreme and other Brazilian authorities due to his father’s trial, Moraes mentioned “intentional and conscious conduct”, which “cowardly and treacherous” try to submit the Brazilian judiciary “to the sieve of foreign state”.
“This attempt to obstruction will not affect the impartiality and independence of the judges of this Supreme Federal Court,” Moraes said before continuing the judgment with the reading of the report.
Moraes also made a defense of national sovereignty, which will be defended by the ministers of the Supreme in a “inflexible” way, he said.
“The history of this Supreme Federal Court has demonstrated that it has never been lacking or never lacking courage to its members to repudiate the aggressions of the enemies of national sovereignty, democracy, the rule of law or the independence of the judiciary.”

Bolsonarists have conditioned a White House retreat to the approval of a broad amnesty to the defendants of the coup plot.

Alexandre de Moraes also spoke about the political polarization of the country and the conflicts it causes, but assessed that desired pacification will only come with the observance of laws and the Constitution, never by cowardice and impunity.
“The pacification of the country, which is the desire of all of us, depends on the respect for the constitution, the application of laws and the strengthening of national institutions, and there is no possibility of confusing the necessary pacification with the cowardice of appeasement.”
Also according to the rapporteur, impunity, besides not bringing pacification, creates trauma and erodes democracy.
“History teaches us that impunity, omission and cowardice are not options for pacification, for the seemingly easier – and only apparently -, which is impunity, leaves traumatic scars in society and erodes democracy, as unfortunately the recent past in Brazil demonstrates.”
