After a three-hour hearing, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), decided to maintain the validity of the plea bargain agreement of Army lieutenant colonel Mauro Cid, Jair Bolsonaro’s former aide-de-camp. The minister considered that the collaborator clarified the omissions and contradictions pointed out by the Federal Police (PF) at the hearing held on Tuesday (19).
The statement was sent by the minister back to the PF to complement the investigations.
In an interview after the testimony, Cid’s defense said that the benefits of the plea bargain were maintained and he provided the requested clarifications.
The hearing was led by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, responsible for approving the military’s plea bargain. The content of the statement was not disclosed.
Contradictions
On Tuesday (19), Mauro Cid denied in his statement to the PF that he was aware of the coup plot to kill President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin, and Moraes.
However, according to the investigations of Operation Countercoup, launched on the same day, one of the meetings of the coup plot was held at the house of General Braga Netto, in Brasília, on November 12, 2022, and was attended by the former assistant of orders Mauro Cid.
Last year, Cid signed a plea bargain agreement with the PF and committed to revealing the facts he became aware of during Bolsonaro’s government, such as the case of the sales of Saudi jewelry and the fraud on the former president’s vaccination cards.
Mauro Cid is one of the 37 indicted by the PF in the investigation investigating an attempted coup d’état after the election of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
