In December 2023, the Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice (TJ-RJ) decided to remove Ednaldo Rodrigues of the position. At the time, the 21st Chamber of Private Law extinguished the Public Civil Action filed by the Public Prosecution Service (MP) against elections that would have been carried out irregularly by the CBF in 2017.
Given the process, the maximum entity of Brazilian football agreed to sign in 2022 a Conduct Adjustment Agreement (TAC), which established a new election, of which Ednaldo Rodrigues was winning.
The decision to withdraw Ednaldo Rodrigues from CBF was taken to a request for former vice-presidents of the entity who lost their positions under the 2022 TAC.
For the TJ-RJ, the TAC signed between the MP and the CBF was illegal. After the court’s decision, Minister Gilmar Mendes granted the injunction To keep Ednaldo Rodrigues in office.
At the time, the minister said that FIFA, the maximum entity that regulates football in the world, sent successive letters to Brazil by stating not to recognize as legitimate the intervener appointed by the TJRJ to the CBF, José Perdiz, president of the Superior Court of Sports (STJD ). The minister also reiterated the risk of the male Olympic selection losing the pre-Olympic for not having an internationally recognized leader.
