The First Panel of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) formed a majority vote this Friday (20) to maintain the conviction of five former members of the leadership of the Military Police of the Federal District (PMDF) to 16 years in prison for failing to contain the coup acts of January 8, 2023.STF has majority to maintain conviction of former PMDF leader by 8/1

The collegiate carries out a virtual trial of the appeals filed by the defenses of Fábio Augusto Vieira, former commander-general, Klepter Rosa Gonçalves, former deputy commander-general, and colonels Jorge Eduardo Barreto Naime, Paulo José Ferreira de Sousa and Marcelo Casimiro Vasconcelos.

The trial began on Friday (13) and will end on Tuesday (24).

So far, the vote of the rapporteur, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, prevails in the trial.

For the minister, there are no irregularities in the collegiate decision, which, in November last year, condemned the military police officers.

The vote was followed by ministers Cristiano Zanin and Cármen Lúcia. Flávio Dino’s vote is missing.

During the proceedings, the defendants’ defense questioned the STF’s holding of the trial and stated that the defendants did not have a privileged forum. The lawyers also alleged that the defense was being restricted due to the lack of full access to the process documentation.
