Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court, authorized this Thursday (2) the federal deputy from Rio de Janeiro Chiquinho Brazão, without a party, to leave prison to undergo a heart exam.
Accused of ordering the death of councilwoman Marielle Franco and driver Anderson Gomes, Brazão will be able to take the exam in Campo Grande, in Mato Grosso do Sul. He is being held in the city’s State Penitentiary. The cardiologist must be appointed by the deputy.
According to Moraes’ decision, the defense must inform the date, time and location of the exam five days in advance so that the escort, which will be carried out by the Federal Police, can be organized.
In December, the defense asked that Chiquinho Brazão be placed on house arrestbut the Attorney General’s Office disagreed.
Accused as masterminds of the murders of Marielle and Anderson, the brothers Chiquinho and Domingos Brazão, who is a counselor at the Rio de Janeiro Court of Auditors, are defendants in a criminal action that is taking place in the Federal Supreme Court because of Chiquinho’s privileged jurisdiction.
In the Chamber of Deputies, a process calling for the revocation of Chiquinho Brazão’s mandate received a favorable decision from the Ethics Council; and awaits a vote in the house plenary.
Former Rio de Janeiro Military Police sergeants Ronnie Lessa and Élcio de Queiroz, accused of the murders of the councilwoman and the driver, have already been tried and convicted.
