Frenchman Stéphane Peterhansel has abandoned the 2023 Dakar Rally After an accident behind the wheel of his Audi Hybrid in which his co-driver Edouard Boulanger was injured, this Friday in the sixth stage, he announced the organization of the famous race that takes place in Saudi Arabia.
Peterhansel, who holds the record for Dakar victories, suffered the accident at kilometer 212, when he was in front of the stage.
Boulanger suffers “back pain” and he was “taken by helicopter by the Dakar medical service to the Buraydah hospital to undergo additional tests,” added the organization on the official page of the test.
The Spanish Carlos Sainz, also behind the wheel of an Audi, also suffered an accident on the same site, the organization specified.
“The crew members escaped unscathed. and they wait for the vehicle to be repaired to try to resume the race,” the organization added.
The sixth stage was cut short due to heavy rain Falls in Saudi Arabia. The timed part has been reduced by 100 kilometers so that it can finish in Riyadh.
