Statistics reveal impact of the panic button on citizen security

The panic button, a technological tool implemented to improve citizen security, has proven its effectiveness in Panama, with 123 incidents reported so far in 2024.

Of these, a surprising 65.8% (81 cases) refer to medical emergencies, while 34.2% (42 cases) correspond to crimes and administrative offenses.

With 72 buttons strategically distributed throughout the country, this innovative tool is transforming the way citizens communicate with authorities in times of crisis.

The operational coordinator of the National Operation Center (CON-C5), Óscar Bernal, said that “the panic button allows citizens to alert the authorities quickly and effectively, which has improved our response capabilities in emergencies and crimes. such as robbery and theft.

Bernal added that in addition to strengthening the population’s confidence in the security system, cases of misuse of the button are practically non-existent, which underlines the responsibility of users.

The coordination between the National Police and other security agencies has optimized attention to alerts, which guarantees a timely and effective response to each emergency.
