Stations must display fuel prices to two decimal places

Senate passes bill to reduce fuel prices

From today (7) gas stations will only be able to display the price of fuel with two decimal places, and no longer with three, as was the case until then.Stations must display fuel prices to two decimal places

The change was determined by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), through the Resolution No. 858/2021published in November last year.

According to the ANP, the objective of the change “is to make the price of fuel more precise and clear for the consumer, in addition to being in line with the numerical expression of the Brazilian currency”.

According to the agency, prices should be displayed with two decimal places both on the price panel and on the display of the supply pumps.

The ANP informs, however, that, in pumps, the third digit can be kept, as long as it is set to zero and locked at the time of supply. “This way, the stations will not need to change the pump modules, which could incur costs to economic agents”, justified the agency.

In the agency’s assessment, the change will not imply the final value of fuel prices, since the rule will not bring “relevant costs to resellers nor restrictions on prices”.
